Bsnl offers following plans to select a Modem for their broadband connection
- Rent a Modem from BSNL
- Modem outright purchase form BSNL (one time payment)
- Modem purchase from BSNL (Through installements)
- Use your own ADSL Modem (purchased from open market)
There are four types of ADSL Modems
- Type 1: Type -I Modems are with one Ethernet Port and One USB Port (Eg: Nokia siemens C 2110, Utstar UT 300R, Smart AX MT 882 Utstar UT 300RTU, DLink GLB 502, 802 Etc)
- Type 2: Type -II Modems having one Ethernet and one Wi Fi port each (Eg: Quidway WA 1003 A, Utstar WA3002-G1 etc)
- Type 3: Type-III Modems are with four Ethernet ports (Eg: Smart Ax MT 841 type 3)
- Type 4: Type-IV Modems are with Four Ethernet ports and with WI FI (ZTE ZXDSL 531, Siemens SL2-141, Smart AX MT 841 Type 4 etc)
Note: Most often Type four modems are termed as Type two by BSNL
Following will help you to select a suitable Modem for your BSNL broadband connection.
Cost: BSNL providing ADSL Modems for very cheap rates. The rates of BSNL Modems
Modem Charges | Modem Type
Modem Sale Price (One time charges) | Type-I | Type-II | Type-III | Type-IV |
Rs.1000 | Rs.1600 | Rs.1000 | Rs.1600
Monthly Rental | Rs.50 | Rs.80 | Rs.50 | Rs.80 |
Monthly Rental after 24 months | Rs. 25 | Rs. 40 | Rs. 25 | Rs. 40 |
If you purchase a Type -IV or type II Modem from open market, it will cost around Rs 2500/- to 3000/-. BSNL is providing the same for Rs 1600/-.
Quality: The quality and reliability of BSNL Modems are average. BSNL supplied Modems often fail to work properly in poor signal to noice ratio conditions, means frequent disconnection problems are predominant for BSNL supplied Modems.
Rent: If you have heavy internet usage and your Modem runs round the clock, then it is a better option to rent the Modem from BSNL because the Modem will be replaced by BSNL on failure. If you purchase the Modem from BSNL or outside, the warranty will be only for one year.
Limited Internet usage: If you have a limited internet usage, then it is better to purchase a Modem from BSNL (either one time or through installment scheme) because it is very much cost effective .
Purchase from open Market: The Modems like D link, Netgear and Lynk Sys perform exceptionally well even in poor signal to ratio conditions also. That means if your house is at considerable distance from nearest BSNL exchange, naturally the line attenuation will be more and the cheap quality Modems fail to perform reliably.

Sir,
I am having BSNL internet connection already. Now I bought one more PC (desktop). I want to connect the PC with the same internet connection. For that I am advised to buy one wireless router and wireless adapter. The nI came to know that from BSNL itself i will get WiFi modem with the same features. Is it include the router as well as the adapter? Can i go for that and can be used in the second PC without a wireless adapter?
Pl adivse me whic htype of mode mshud i take for my purpose.
You need not to buy a WiFi adapter. Configure the modem in PPPoE mode and connect one PC with USB connector and the other with Ethernet cable. You can extend the Ethernet cable as required.
sir, i want to take bsnl internet connection & for tat i already applied,The BsNL ppl are saying that there z no modem in stock right now so i prefer to buy one with built in wifi from the store. my house is a li’ll bit away from the exchange,so i need one which ll perform well in poor signal condition
Plz suggest some modems below 2500bucks.
You can Go for D Link or Netgear, Netgear is a little bit costlier than D Link, both are under Rs 2500/-
thanks bro for your post am going to get netgear now.
is this modem is good ? Netgear Wireless-N 150 Router WGR614
Netgear is a Good Modem. D Link is also equally good. No experience with the particular Netgear model.
Sir i have bsnl type 2 modem made by iti can i increase wife signal if ya then how .
tell me please .
Sir,
I studied all ur comments to the netzens & ur advise is ok. I had gone to BSNL office for new broad band connection. I asked the bsnl employees to provide a Wifi Modem for my laptop & 1 Desktop on rent basis . They refused to provide rent basis modem , Only one time charges modem is providing now. The charges for the Wifi modem is Rs 1800/-. i analysed that BSNL employees it self not providing the modem on rent basis ( due to future modem problem expectations). they diverting to take one time payment option. I am requesting to u that please provide the
Company Name of modem; Model No of the modem ,company, approximate price(it should be equal to OR below 1800/- price modem with quality of the data transfer signal)
i expecting the modem should be good quality of performance at poor signal also.
I did not prefer heavy expenditure on modems at the same time BSNL own modems.
i am waiting for ur reply.

Praveen

150 N is not the model number it indicate the WiFi data speed and supported technology. 150 N means Maximum speed of 150 Mbps and Based on IEEE 802.11 n technology (The latest one) . In 802.11 n technology the data rate in Wifi is from 54 Mbit/s to 600 Mbit/s. You will be able to see 300 N Routers also in market, which can offer maximum 300 Mbps data speed.
This is the D Link Model http://www.dlink.co.in/products/?pid=451
If you get the Netgear WiFi Modem cum Router for Rs 1200/- then it’s a good deal. Can you specify your requirements?

hi i have the modem WA3002g4 wifi. I am getting continuous disconnection from the internet. what is the solution?
Frequent disconnection problem is because of the Poor Signal to Noise Ratio of your Line. Get the line checked by BSNL. This is predominant during rainy seasons.
Between Linksys and dlink which one is better in terms of connectivity?
My usage is home based and I am getting a 512 kbps bsnl connection. I am looking for good connectivity all over my single storey flat. Would Dlink N150 suffice or should I go for N300 ?
sir, is Belkin n 150 wireless router+modem is compitable with bsnl broadband….. plz help me sir..??
Yes it’s compatible
Hi Sujith,
I have gone through the valuable suggestions that you had given to so many people. Thanks a lot for ur work.
i have taken BSNL landline connection, applied for 750+ unlimited plan.
BSNL does not have type 2 modem, but suggested me to purchase from outside market.
I concluded to TP Link TD W8590ND modem. i wil use for laptop. pls guide with similar modems.. like TP Link TD W8590ND modem/netgear (pls suggest model no.)/ D link (pls suggest model no.) Exchange is 2 km away form my residence.
Kindly provide ur any additional comment on my query.
Many thanks,
Ashim
Hi Ashim, Thanks for your comments .
D lInk DSL-2730 U WiFi Modem is working fine for me its cost is around 2100 INR. In the local markets of India often we don’t have much more model to choose. The commonly available brands are Netgear and D link. For domestic use both the brands are performing well. Go to your nearest dealer and get an economical model.
Dear Sujith,
Please could you advise me on the port that we are connecting the telephone line to the modem. Is it RJ 45 or RJ 11. I am planning to take a modem from dubai and sending it to india. Please could you suggest me the best option

Ashiq Azeez
The port which connects telephone line to Modem is RJ 11.
You can purchase any good ADSL modem from there. For configuration assistance you can contact
i want to buy a bsnl modem
Hi Sujith,
I have applied for 750+ unlimited plan.
BSNL does not have type 2 modem, but suggested me to purchase from outside market.
I’m in a dilemma as to which modem to buy. My friend suggested me Nokia-Siemens or Motorola. What do I do?
After purchasing a modem from outside and there is connection problem, will BSNL rectify it without blaming the modem?
You can buy Netgear or D link. , both Modems are good
If there is connection problem, will BSNL rectify it without blaming the modem?

What is the use of TTL? What it stands for? What is meant by latency in CMD window while pinging IPaddress. How can i conclude that my net speed was low/poor in CMD window other than Speedtest websites.
TTl (Time to Live).
Latency in a packet-switched network is measured either one-way (the time from the source sending a packet to the destination receiving it), or round-trip (the one-way latency from source to destination plus the one-way latency from the destination back to the source).
Internet speed depends upon many factors such as bandwidth your your line, ISP, bandwidth capability of the server you want to ping, Speedtest website select a good server using ping test (minimum latency)
sir,
i opted BSNL BB unlimited at 256kbps speed, Dlink 2730U . I can browse the websites quickly, but if i want to watch TV channels streaming live means for every 30 seconds it is interrupting for another 30 seconds. when i checked by ping test with my ip the reply i got was TTL 64 , latency =3ms. i observed that the internet speed is low.
i checked with speedtest website the speed of UP & Down showing in 0.4mbps, 0.5mbps. And also i checked with BSNL Bangalore NOC Speed test tool, i got 50kbps to 115kbps.
how can i overcome this problem? how can i explain to BSNL staff regarding this problem & any improvement will i get?
i am waiting for ur reply.
Regards,
praveen
hi Sujith sir,,

Hi Dinesh, Go for a Modem from open market . A number of models available in market. All modems can be configures accordingly. You can use WiFi at your home , enable the security and no one will be able to your your net. You can go for the brands D Link, Netgear, Beetel etc. For configuration settings you can contact me
Regards
Dinesh, Buy D Link 2730U Or 2750U (higher range Wi-Fi , with 2 antennas).
For 2730u Rs 1875+75(vat) =Rs 1950 in open market.
It gives so much facilities, options than BSNL modems. U definitely enjoy it. before buying check brouchure, manual of the Dlink both in website. after u buy.
sir, i want to buy a modem for bsnl broadband connection, plz suggest me the brand. bsnl told me to purchase ADSL type ll wifi modem. what the cost of this modem in market. is it necessary to buy a wifi modem as i have single laptop to use.
thanks
santosh
It is not necessary to purchase a WiFi Modem if you have a single Laptop to use, but WiFi is always convenient especially since you are using a laptop. Go to your nearest PC hardware shop and select a good model from the reputed brands link D Link, Netgear etc. ..Ask about the after sale service, it’s very important. For configuration part you can come back here
Regards,
I have Type-II modem provided by BSNL, and i live in a remote village, my nearest BSNL office is 5 kms away… but due to village line, its damaged and faulty line anyways. i know that. but i am not getting ay disturbances in my phone line.
but for some time, im facing internet speed issues… it was all great until a month ago.
sometimes the Internet LED doesn’t bcm steady, sometimes it does. even when its confirmed, net stays slow, well, most of the times.
and i think its due to rainy season and bcz i have 2 pcs and one laptop + wifi connected to that.
do u think that buying a modem from the open market will improve my connectivity?

REGARDS
RAJIV
You can purchase any Wireless Modem cum router available in market. I don’t have any hands on experience with iBall router. Which model you are preferring? Almost all routers available in Indian market are compatible with BSNL. Just need to configure., that’s all. For configuration settings you can come back here.

D-Link DSL-2750U N300 ADSL Modem Wireless Router

How to configure D-Link DSL-2750U N300 ADSL Modem Wireless Router with my BSNL broad band .
Now I am using UTStarcom modem from the BSNL.
The antenna broken so I brought one D-Link DSL-2750U N300 ADSL Modem Wireless Router.
Plz help me.
I am having a bsnl broadband connection, with a sterlite wired modem. Some time back I connected a w/l broad band router (linsksys 2.4 ghz), so that I can work on my laptop also. It was working o.k. But, from last week, the link in the modem is not steady. The bsnl people say that it is due to some fault in the modem. But, i am not sure as it works ok, at times. Is it possible that due to modem fault, the link could be unsteady, or is due to the fault in the line. The voice line is sometimes noisy. Please advise. Also please suggest a suitable modem, in case replacement is needed.
It is not a Modem fault. Get your line checked. These type of problems are predominant in monsoon season due to the rusted contacts and joints. If BSNL is not accepting that, book the fault for Noise in Telephone line. Don’t change the Modem.
hi…..If your phone line is noisy, then DSL will not become stable and this is neither your ADSL modem problem nor Linksys wireless AP problem but rather copper wire problem. Ask BSNL JTO to get it checked at MDF room itself with your modem. For this you go to your telephone exchange’s MDF room and check DSL there itself in your modem. This will verify that what is faulty, Your modem or copper wire line. Also, it may be a problem in splitter also which is a white box near your modem.
Now BSNL Stopped Giving Modems, Its now customers duty to purchase it. me now looking for a good ADSL Modem. My requirement is Multiple LAN Ports and Wireless. any suggestions ?.
Hi Sujith
I stay in Agra, I have recently taken a BSNL broadband unlimited combo plan of Rs. 625 with Type – I modem. I have recently purchased a Black berry Torch 9810, hence wish to have a WiFi access. I visited a local BSNL dealer who suggested Taracom WiFi modem – (which he said BSNL is giving right from the very beginning- never heard of this name) , I proposed a Wifi Router. His final suggestion were to go for a Taracom Wifi modem for Rs. 2000/-, he will buy back my Type-I modem price of which is Rs. 1100/-(he didn’t declare at what price he will buy back)., He declined the proposal of a Wifi router costing 1500/-. He says Taracom modem has a range of 20 meters whereas Wifi router has a range of 15 meters. My basic idea is to have a good wifi whether it is through a router or a modem. Your suggestions are solicited.
I want to make best use of my Black berry Torch 9810, my friends say that I have to register myself with Black berry. Kindly advise how do I do it and what benefits shall I get. Also please advise about any anti virus for my Black Berry.
Thanks & Regards
M.K. Ghosh
Hi Ghosh, No experience with Taracom WiFi Modem. You can connect your Blackberry with any WiFi Network. No need to register with Blackberry
http://docs.blackberry.com/en/smartphone_users/deliverables/18577/Connect_to_a_Wi-Fi_network_60_1051266_11.jsp
Go for a router available at your local market with good after sale and warranty support. I have tested Beetel, D Link, and ZTE WiFi Routers. All are performing well
sir please tell me how to configure beetel 450tc1 modem with bsnl. i have configured with lan properly! but facing problem with wireless, so can you please tell me the steps to configure beetel 450tc1 wireless.

Yes, now severe shortage of BSNL modems, and you can buy from Market. I will prefer DGN 1000 from Netgear or WAG120N from Cisco Linksys. Both are very good interms of speed and reliability. Got one from following guys through online.
http://netnlap.com/wireless-modem-router/100253-netgear-dgn1000-wireless-wi-fi-adsl2-modem-router-in-india.html
Advantage of the Netgear DGN 1000 is that it is under 2 years warranty where as others only 1 year.
I have Buy nokia siemens modem 1600 from BSNL. now modem is out of warranty and the modem is not working.please tell me what should i do.
thanks in advance!!
No option other than replacement.
roger sujith !!
Bikash how did you declare your modem faulty ? generally the power supply adapter goes faulty for NSN modems. Check it out !!
sir i want to purchase a good modem. i have seen one of beetle of RS 2000 ,i did not remember the model no.,one of nokia @RS 1500 and one of ZTE@RS 1200,one also of netgear@RS3500.which one should i prefer?
Dear Gaurav,
ZTE Modems are the Best……..The ADSL link can become stable in ZTE modems even on those sites where no other modem is able to get the link stable. Also, Beetel is also good.
