After crossing different deadlines Mobile Number Portability came into a reality on 20 Jan 2011 across all Telecom circles of India. Statistics says around 17 Lakh customers have availed this facility since the launch. Customers are facing several problems in connection with MNP. Service providers are deliberately delaying the porting requests and rejecting the applications. Here some reported issues with MNP.
1. Problems in getting Unique Porting Code: This is the preliminary requirement for MNP. When a customer send porting request SMS in prescribed format to 1900, the UPC to be delivered immediately as reply SMS from 1901, it’s an automatic process. Unfortunately people often are getting this type of messages “Sorry customer please try after some time”, ” Your request is invalid”, “Dear customer please wait for some time”, “Your request can not be processed”, “Try to contact customer care ” etc.
2. Applications not getting processed: As per the guidelines the whole porting process should be completed within four days on receipt of application . It has been observed that the loosing operators are deliberately delaying the application and not even responding to the queries.
3. Rejection of porting request : Mobile operators are quoting ridiculous reasons for rejecting the applications such as ” You are in a special plan so porting is not possible”, ” You are using life time validity plan so porting request cannot be processed” . As per the guidelines these are not the valid reasons to reject an application.
4. Problems with post paid customers : Even after clearing all outstanding bills the porting requests of customers are not getting processed.
5. Downtime more than 2 hours : This happened with me also. I got an SMS about the porting time ” Your Port in request for Mobile number xxxxxxxxx has been accepted and your mobile number will be ported on 09 Feb 2011 at 00:53 AM “ Now the time is 0800, 09 Feb 11. Number is blocked and not able do outgoing/ incoming calls (The porting request application was submitted on 02 Feb 2011 with all required documents)
TRAI is monitoring the whole MNP process and attending complaints. They warned the service providers against deliberate delays and non complains of regulations. Let’s consider these glitches as the teething problems and hope the authorities will take strict actions against defaulters.

I have a post paid mobile connection with Reliance with number 9323546441. My attempts to complete MNP from Reliance to other provider have failed. I want to give last chance to Reliance to complete the process before I start Grievance procedure with them as well as DOT.
Approach the grievence cell immediately as the operators dont want to loose customers and hence reject the request on some flimsy reason.
First of all I want to thank Sujith for giving everyone a platform to put in their grievences regarding MNP. After three failed attempts in the last four months for changing my operator from reliance to MTNL, I had made a complaint with the grievence cell of Central Government. This worked as I got a call from Reliance official to track my case. I was again asked to give a port out request and the same has been done by Reliance in 7 days time. Hence, everyone is requested to approach the grievence cell and make an online complaint and follow up diligently. Please ensure all the bills are paid, if it is post paid, and initiate the MNP request ensuring sufficient time period is available before the next bill is generated.

I had raised a MNP request to Idea ( Current subscriber) ( Idea to Vodaphone). Before raising the request i had paid teh last month bill with some extra amount to cover the unbilled usage. Two days after i raised a the request an amount of 1000/- was added to my un billed amount and my MNP request was rejected because of outstanding amount. On calling Idea customer care they refused me to give details of the un billed amount and told me that i need to wait for the next bill ( almost a month ) to review the details.
Please suggest as to what can i do in this case.

I am a MTNL Dolphin postpaid customer. I applied for MNP, and the request has been rejected by MTNL without any reason. I called them on the customer care and they are saying they do not have any such request though I earlier received calls from MTNL enquiring on why I want to switch to a different operator.
Now, I send a request for the port number again to 1900, and this time I am not receiving any reply message despite sending 6 such SMSes in the duration of 10 days. I have sent an email to “1503@bol.net.in” for the same as well but not received a reply yet.
Can you please suggest what should I do? I want to switch the operator since it doesn’t work in NCR but do not want to lose my number. Please help.

it all started back on 27th december 2011 when i intented to port my mobile number 9914888852 from idea to vodafone. For this i visited vodafone store at sarabha nagar, ludhiana. After submitting my relevant documents with the customer executive named Mr. Mukesh, he said that my number will be ported within 10 working days. Even after 2 weeks my number didnt ported as per deadlines set by TRAI. Then i visited the vodafone store again, and this time Ms. Priyanka attended me and from her i came to know that my porting request is not processed from their end into the vodafone system. After hearing that i told her to please process my request immediately and produce my documents which i submitted to them before as my documents should be present their as my request was not submitted to vodafone, Mohali but she was unable to present it as it was missing from their office. so i submitted my documents again to her on 11th january 2012 and my request got processed but my porting request was rejected two days after my request ,and i was provided with reason that my porting code was expired. After that i visited vodafone store again on 16th january 2012 to give my request again with new porting code but to my shock they were blank on whereabout of my documents submitted to them times before. So, i submitted my documents 3rd time,
and my number ported after a week and finally i got relived but that was short living as i got message from vodafone on 27th january that my documents are missing so i called vodafone care but that was useless as they were unable to give any solution and i visited the store again on 28th january but to witness the rude behaviour of your executives after asking them about lax behaviour that why they still didnt deposited to my documents but that was useless. At the end i had to deposited my documents again but i again got the message from vodafone that my documents are missing and i should submit the documents in 24 hrs otberwise my number will get suspended, to resolve my issue i called customer care and i talked to Mr. Deepak, Floor manager(as said by him) that there is nothing he can do and in any case i should visit the same vodafone store again (where employee’s are lazy to their core) and submit my documents for the 4th time .what should i expect from those employee’s who didnt submitted my documents 3 times before. Do vodafone employ the people who are p.hd in laziness and poor in solving problems?. i thought vodafone would be good as its a international brand but from the harrasment i am facing i think it’s the other side. now my clip is suspened and feeling that going with this way my number will sure get suspened. i hope to get some relief from this harrasment.

I have given a MNP request for changing my network from Airtel to Reliance on 2nd Feb 2012 . The application was not processed till 10th Feb 2012. the customer service executive from airtel on 5:00PM 10th FEB 2012 says that my porting ID that I have given was wrong, so my application is rejected. This happened to me 2 times , though I have carefully given my porting ID correctly while subbmitting my form with Reliance. please help me in making this MNP successfully. Government/TRAI should bring a online MNP portal so that we ourselves can do it by submitting documents without any hassle.while other countries like Newzealand etc., already have it and they are successful in that.

As i was communicated from TATADOCOMO gallery executive to give
fresh ID,then I got a confirmation SMS from Vodafone on 7 Dec that
your MNP is successful with portingcode VE345541,
On 15 dec I got another SMS from Vodafone that [ MNP request Rejected
for 9919098098 due to active porting order exits(subscriber NUMBER
EXITS IN THE SYSTEM) at 15-12-2011]and got another SMS from Tata
Docomo stating the same.
And my vodafone sim card show sim card registration failed.
When I went to Vodafone store they told me that your no is deactivated
from here you need to contact to Tata Docomo for further process and
when I went Tata Docomo the told me your no has been rejected from
Vodafone.
I was go many time both store but no one salve my problem. I spend
more time and money….
No one accepted his mistake and blame each other.

The unique No re3ceived on 07 Feb 2011 for port ID is AZ344841 valid up to 22 Feb 2012. On 14 Feb 2012 i received msg from vodaphon i.e. portability rejected by your current operator due to there are subsisting contractual obligation for the subscriber.
You are therefor requested to instruct airtel to issue portability to me I will clear all outstanding withou fail.
