google 150x150 Google Operating System: Another Windows killer? On 08 Jul 09 Google officially announced the plan of launching an OS. According to the sources it will be a light weight web based  OS initially targeted for portable use in net books and laptops. The OS is being called Chrome OS, is expected to launch by the mid of 2010. It will be an open source web based operating system.

The design team of Chrome OS is working together with the leading hardware and PC manufactures Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and Toshiba. The OS will be open source, which make a better scope of future development. As this is a web based OS,  it can not be termed as a “windows killer”. It is not easy to change the mind of the conventional  windows users because windows  is almost the habit of many people. Moreover the concept of a web based OS is also new and which is limited the active internet users. In the country like India, still now the high speed internet connectivity is poor and a costly affair.

The major challenge for Google is to get the proprietary device  drivers and application softwares. There are millions of devices which are only compatible to windows.  Any way the war between  OS giant and SE giant will certainly  cater some good  creative products for us.
