If you have enabled the security settings with strong password, it’s very difficult to hack the network. You can use all WiFi enabled devices simultaneously with this. Working range is depending upon the obstructions . Works within 50 mtrs without any problem.

HIREN July 21, 2011 at 6:51 PM

Thanks. In bsnl wi-fi modem is possible with security which you ask ? is it 50 Mtrs. or Feets. ?

Sujith July 21, 2011 at 6:58 PM

Yes all WiFi Modems are Security enabled. You have to Configure it. You can get 50 Mtr or more range in Plain.

Yes, can use for Android phones also. It’s working here without any problems. Configure your modem in PPPoE (Always ON mode). Enable WiFi and Security. No need of any special config settings in your Android phone. Just connect to WiFi.

Currently are they providing which type-2 modem? Can you please tell me?

Here all are discussed regarding ZTE ZXDSL 531 (TYPE-2) 4-LAN/Wireless LAN.

If BSNL currently provide this modem else what modem will be provide for new broadband connection?

Is this modem good? Can we buy outside? Pls tell me the price for this.

My ZTE Modem ZXDSL513B is behaving erratically after it got affected by lightening by a CAT6 cable connected to one of its LAN port. Following are the observations:
(1) On power switch on power and DSL LEDs gets on for few seconds but toggles after that.
(2) There is no indication of internet LED being glowing. even internet line is through as checked by another Modem of same model.
Kindly provide some solution.

Hi Raju,
DSL stable issue is normally not related to Modem. It is related to the telephone line. Get your line checked in Monsoon season it is common due to rusted cable joints and terminations.

Just edit the PVC which is pre- assigned with VPI=0, VCI=35. You can delete all the pre configured PVCs and create the fresh connections.

In the advanced setup page, you can find all the PVCs in a tabular form. Select the PVCs by ticking the check boxes of “Remove” column and click the Remove button at the table bottom

I am facing issue connecting my android device to ZTE- Bsnl broadband.
I have switched to PPPoE and dynamic IP (192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254).
My laptop connects properly to wifi (192.168.1.3) and provides internet access.
However my android device (motorola charm) connects to wifi and obtains an ip address 169.254.167.75 and doesnot provide internet access.

I have used my phone with other wifi and it gives internet access.
Please suggest solution if any.

Hey Sujith,

I have a wifi modem of bsnl(ZTE modem type 2). I’m able to connect to net with lan, but I’m not able to connect with modem in wifi. It says,”Windows was not able to connect to ZXDSL 531B”. I have always on mode(PPPOE mode). But I’m able to connect with modem through my Ipod touch and use the net, only my laptop is not able to connect to wifi

Hi Alok, Check the WiFi security settings of your Modem. Your operating system? Check the settings of your WiFi network too. Delete all the old WiFi connections.

Hi, Can I send a fax through this Modem. If not, give me a solution. If I have to install any other specific Fax modem, can I use that Modem through laptop despite the same installed in my Desktop computer connected with the Laptop through wifi as I am using the printer?

Reply

Sujith October 9, 2011 at 10:51 PM

No You can’t send FAX through this Modem. For that purchase a Dialup FAX Modem. It’s much cheaper (Less than Rs 500/-). You can have three types of FAX modems. (1) USB, (2) Com port (3) PCMCI Internal type

Thanks. Can I get any link to know how to configure internal Fax modem.

Reply

Sujith October 12, 2011 at 4:10 PM

No Separate configuration is required. Install the Modem driver. Go to Printers and Faxes settings. The wizard will prompt you the rest and Fax will be added. If you are using Windows XP, it may ask installation CD. To send fax, give print command, select FAX as printer. Dial the number send the FAX

After changing BSNL password, you have to change it in Modem also. Router will not take it automatically.

piyush October 26, 2011 at 1:15 AM

Hi Sujith,
Is there same process(PPPOE) we have to use change password? or have any other option to change password ? or can we sync password changing to router if it is possible please tell me.

Reply

Sujith October 26, 2011 at 9:13 AM

Yes, you have to do the same process. Instead of creating new connection, just edit the previously configured connection (ie VPI/VCI= 0/35) and change your password in the third step. Save and Reboot
No option to sync the BSNL password with router

I did exactly the same to configure a wifi using bsnl zte type 2 modem, by switching to pppoe in connection type, later i don’t get access to internet.
where as while i switch to Bridging in connection type i find my internet running properly.

Also referred to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEenPVYMrDM
the only difference is i use Windows 7 Ultimate.

Also i wish to know the possibilities to connect to wi-fi from my Macbook Pro, i have been referring through different websites, i found most of them find the Macbook Pro isn’t getting connected with their bsnl wi-fi.
