D Link DSL 2730 is a reasonably good ADSL WiFi Modem prized around Rs 2100/-. Apart from WiFi Four Ethernet ports are also available. This Modem can be configured very easily through a user friendly web interface.

Modem Configuration
Now let us configure the Modem for broadband connection. Here we are basically discussing about the configuration part for BSNL and MTNL connection.
Connect the Modem to the Ethernet port of your PC/Laptop with the supplied Ethernet cable. Power on the Modem and follow the steps .
- Open your web browser and type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar of browser. Then enter the user name “admin” and password “ admin” in the popup box. Now the first page of Modem Configuration page will be displayed. See the screenshot
2. Click the Advance setup menu on the left sidebar. Now the following page will be displayed.
3. In that page click the add button as shown in the screenshot. Now in the next page we have to enter the VPI/VCI values of ISP. Here the VPI value of BSNL and MTNL is “0” and VCI of BSNL is 35 and MTNL is 32.
- Select the DSL Latency: Path 0
- Select the DSL Link Type: EoA
- Select Connection mode: Default
- Encapsulation Mode: LLC/SNAP –BRIDGING
- Service category : UBR Without PCR
- Select the IP QoS Scheduler Algorithm to Strict Priority
4. After the above settings click the “Apply/Save” Button. Now the following page will be displayed.
5. Now click the WAN service Submenu under the Advance Setup.
6. In the above shown Wide Area Network (WAN) Service Setup page click the Add button. Now the following page will be displayed.
7. Click the Next Button for next page.
8. Here you can decide which configuration mode of your Internet connection. That is PPPoE mode or Bridge Mode. In PPPoE mode the user id and password supplied by your internet service provider is stored inside the Modem itself. Here internet connection will be made through as soon as you switched ON your Modem. PPPoE mode is essential to share the internet connection with multiple PCs, Laptops, Smart phones etc.
In Bridge mode Modem will work as a bridge and you have to setup a dialer in your PC. In this modem internet connection sharing is not possible through Modem. To configure the Modem in Bridge mode just select the Wan Service type to “Bridging” and keep rest all settings default, then go to the final steps through clicking the “Next” button.
9. Now let’s configure the Modem in PPPoE Mode
Select the “WAN Service Type” – PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) then keep the rest settings default and click the Next button. See the screenshot of next page.
This is the important step where you have to enter the broadband userid and password supplied by your ISP (BSNL/MTNL etc).
- PPP Username – Username supplied by ISP
- PPP Password – Password supplied by ISP
- PPPoE Service Name – You can type anything for reference ..Say BSNL
- Authentication Method – Auto
- Enable Firewall
- Now Keep all the other settings Default. You need not to set anything
Click the Next Button
In this page Select the option “ Select DNS Server Interface from available WAN Interfaces” and click the Next button
Click the Apply/Save Button.
Now you have completed all the configuration steps. Just reboot the Modem by Switch OFF/ON. Open the browser and start browsing .

I am using this DSL 2730U for last 1 week. Everything is OK, Wireless connectivity is also OK, gives much higher speed within 10 meters in LAPTOPS, but in mobile phones it gives very very slow speed. My BSNL Broadband speed is 1 Mbps, it goes well enough for LAPTOP PCS but in mobile phones it goes only about 1kBps.
I tried with 3 phones NOKIA C6, NOKIA C5-03, NOKIA E63. All are giving same response.
anything extra to be configured in wireless settings ?

hi….i have as well brought the DSL-2750U adsl….i have MTNL broadband…the thing is in the PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) i have entered the username and the password provided i can access the net but it keeps breaking. i had contacted mtnl and they gave me the ip–gateway and dns settings to put on the computer after which the net works just fine. i wanted to configure DSL-2750U with the same settings but have not been able to understand.

I bought D’Link 2750U 300N ADSL2+. I had BSNL Broadband. And have setup as per above screenshots.
Per my connection to BSNL drops after @ 5 to 15 minutes
1) diagnostics showing ping default gateway – Failed and ping DSN servers failed.
2) SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 129 170
Attenuation (0.1 dB): 385 195
CHanges that had no corrective effect: DSL simulation with ADSL2+ or ADSL2 enabled/disabled ; MTU = 1492 ; DHCP disabled – assigned laptop IP and DNS explicitly
Do you know what does Broadband configuration not happy with?
Have opened complaint with BSNL – technician will visit soon and Customer Rep on phone said nothing wrong with DLink 2750U – itsBSNL technician will configure it properly.

while i login to 192.168.1.1, i am unable to login using password “admin” please help.
Click on Management> settings> Restore Default
That will restore all your previous setting to factory settings and also your username and password will be set to default which it’s “admin”

I do have the same router. so the problem is that when i try to connect to the internet . it says to reconnect . i dont know why. and when i went through the router i noticed that the internet bulb is blinking where it should stay always on…so i got the phone company down and they did something in the command propmt(CMD) ..and theres nothing working. so please help me.asap thank you.

Friends mobile connectivity is very slow….Were any1 able to solve the mobile issue ?? works very fine with laptop and desktop but not at all working properly with mobiles..My net speed is 4mbps , i get the same speed in desktop and laptop but in mobiles it is almost 1kbps …. this router seems worst !! any 1 please guide me in solving this issue…

Try To Open 192.168.1.1 With IE,it ask for user name & password,it will be admin & admin respectively.Go To Wireless-Security-Select SSID-Network Authentication=WPA-Personal-Auto,Enter user new password at dotted column then WPA/WAPI Encryption = TKIP+AES,then appy & save Then Go to Management-Reboot.Click Reboot.

I got this wifi modem + router D-Link DSL 2750 U
there are few problems
1) i connected the ethernet cable and try to access http://192.168.1.1 , but not able to connect.
The symbol 1 in modem for ethernet is continuosly green , because i have connected to 1st port and lights in my laptop ethernet port are also glowing , showing connection.
2) I removed the ethernet cable and switched on my wi-fi , and then try to access http://192.168.1.1 , and could able to connect and configure the modem according to the instructions given by you here.
3) Still i am getting no internet connectivity , only two lights are glowing i.e power and wi-fi and they are green , rest none of the light is glowing.
All connections are proper to splitter and phone and modem. I am having BSNL broadband and Ubuntu on my laptop.
Is my wifi modem + router faulty because it is not getting connected by ethernet cable but i can connect through wifi. None other lights are glowing not even in red

First check that lan cable prperly connect to pc/laptop erthnet port & lan port of modem then connect dsl line cable in dsl port of modem then
insert setup cd then click on start then click next-next-next,when it says unable to detect modem then click it again then select country then operater will be BSNL because reliance is not in list,then enter ur ISP username & pass word then click next then enter ur WiFi name of ur choise then wait to complete process & page of exit and browse internet click exit then ur able to browse internet, Your only switch on modem & automatically connect to internet ,Happy browsing…..

No need to use the CD. Settings of Reliance Broadband and BSNL broadband are same.

I purchased a new dsl-2730U router. Following your tutorial I configured the device through web interface. The setup CD says – click’n connect can not discover router. I replaced ethernet cable. Still I can not ping router on 192.168.1.1.
Now I can use wi-fi only but none of the 4 LAN ports seems active. Please help, I am using wi-fi, but I need wired ethernet for my PC as well
Hi Rajput, Asign ip address to the network adapter of your PC. Use any number 192.168.1.3 or 192.168.1.8 … something like that in as IP address, 192.168.1.1 as default gateway, 8.8.8.8 as primary DNS, 8.8.4.4 as secondary DNS. Then try to ping the router. Still you face problem , then update the driver of your Ethernet adapter, it may be corrupted.

Thanks for your configuration guide. But I am Little confused yet. Actually the structure is I am having a internet connection through cable in which I have not got any modem or router from the ISP. I have got only one IP address (which I need to enter in my Ethernet properties) and, username and password, which I need to log in, on a site to get the internet running. However I bought this device.
So my question is I want to run this internet on PC through wired ethernet and on laptop through WIFI.. So is there any way possible to configure this router+modem to achieve the result. Thanks
Hi Zeeshan, Can you give more details about your connection Such as your ISP, type of connection. I think you got a dedicated IP.
Just configure the Modem in PPPoE mode, with that you can use your PC and Laptop simultaneously. Go through the article once again.
Yes Sir, I have a dedicated IP address….which has been issued only for me.. i mean for example if my one of neighbour wants to get the internet from the same company then they would issue him another IP address which is personally for him. I cannot access internet without configuring my network card TCP/ IP settings with that IP only.
And after configuring we need to go to their gateway address from any browser and then login with the username n password that they gave me. Then only my internet starts running.
Now if I configure my modemrouter with the steps above, as u said PPPoE setting then how would the modem access their gateway page.
I mean would it be fine to configure it like that?

i posted on 9th thanking for ur config guide. i followed ur guide and it worked perfectly well. i could connect my netbook by lan port and another laptop and a couple of smartphones by wifi. but after logging out that day, on next day i cannot connect through lan port anymore. wifi is working fine. but on trying to connect using the default bsnl broadband connection window using default userid and password, its showing error 651. please help.
Configure your Lan adapter (of PC) manually. Put IP address (192.168.1.xxx) default gateway 192.68.1.1 , Preferred DNS 8.8.8.8 alternate DNS 8.8.4.4
