Another wonder from Dubai, Burj Dubai (Renamed to Burj Khalifa), the tallest skysraper of world is officially opens on 04 Jan 10. This is the tallest human made structure ever built. The height of this building is 818 m. Construction was started on 21 September 2004. “Burj”, is the Arabic word for tower.

Design
The design of this building is inspired from the shape of regional desert flower Hymenocallis. Like petals from a stem, the tower’s wings extend from its central core. Architect of this wonder is Adrian Smith (USA) . The architecture features a triple-lobed footprint, an abstraction of the Hymenocallis flower. The tower is composed of three elements arranged around a central core. The modular, Y-shaped structure, with setbacks along each of its three wings provides an inherently stable configuration for the structure and provides good floor plates for residential. Twenty-six helical levels decrease the cross section of the tower incr
ementally as it spirals skyward. The central core emerges at the top and culminates in a sculpted spire. A Y-shaped floor plan maximizes views of the Arabian Gulf. Viewed from the base or the air, Burj Dubai is evocative of the onion domes prevalent in Islamic architecture.
