Singapore-based software applications developer U2opia Mobiles unveiled a new application for cell phones that will enable them to access Facebook on all kind of handsets without paying for a data connection. This is based on USSD technology (Unstructured Supplementary Data), which is used by the mobile service providers to inform them about balance after a call, miss call alerts etc.

This facilitates the Facebook users to carry primary Facebook activities such as posting updates, finding friends, accessing profile, browse and view news feeds on every mobile phone.In India Bharti Airtel is launching this service for their customers. All AIRTEL Customers can access their Facebook profiles from ANY mobile phone without going on the internet! just dial *325# (and “*fbk#” for non-qwerty mobile handsets) from your Airtel Mobile. Users can update Facebook status for free of cost and to View ? comment on ? ´Like´ news feeds, post on friends’ walls, confirm friend requests, view notifications, find and add friends – at Re 1 / day per use.

Update: Now Facebook India has made this service available on all mobile networks.
